The Tommy Gun Returns

May 28, 2008 8:10 am

Auto-Ordnance Thompson 1927A-1 Model TA5 .45ACP Pistol

The classic Thompson 1927’s are back from Auto-Ordnance, this time being sold as a “lightweight deluxe pistol”. The TA5 sports a 10.5 inch barrel and the classic 50 round drum magazine, chambered in .45 ACP. 10 and 30 round stick magazines are available as well as the heavy-weight 100 round drum. From the specs, this looks to be a close remake of the classic Thompson in inner workings and even includes the classic walnut furniture. A very pretty piece of hardware.

Is they are releasing this as a ‘deluxe pistol’, I am wondering if it will have an adapter to attach an optional rear stock for this. Very sexy. I have always wanted one of these. Getting a repro may be the only way.

Knowing the tremendous recoil of the stock version, i can just not imagine how this one would be controllable in full auto.

The most uncontrollble weapon of the world. They could at least put a grip. Or maybe it’s semi auto only.

This is Semi-Auto-Only. And yes, they make a version with a shoulder stock, but then it legally comes a rifle and is required to have a 16″ barrel.

Antique full-auto versions are still legal, but heavily restricted. No new machineguns can be made and sold to normal people like us. Therefore, the antiques are the only ones that are legal. This makes legal machineguns rare and expensive. Typical prices for a REAL Thompson are in the $10,000 to $15,000 range. That’s not counting the time and work you have to go throught to get it registered.
