The BUL M-5 is  an M1911A1-style automatic manufactured by BUL firearms in Isreal. It is available in a variety of calibers and can be switched between them by swapping barrels, springs, magazines and possibly the slide (to 9×19mm Para, 9×21mm IMI, .38Super, .40SW, and of course .45ACP) . The M-5s have become quite popular in the competitive shooting circuits.

The Barrett 648 was introduced at the 2004 SHOT show by Barrett, a firearms company better known for it’s .50 caliber rifles and other high powered anti-material rifles. The 648 mates the M16 platform with the Remington 6.8 x 43 mm SPC cartridge. The round was developed to operate between the performance of 5.56mm and 7.62mm munitions, and is very close in dimensions to the existing 5.56mm, but delivering significantly greater energy at short ranges. The round is outperformed at longer ranges by the competing 6.5mm Grendel round.

The Glock 26 is the first of the sub-compact framed Glock automatics, designed for concealed carry. With the very short and thin design, the subcompacts suffer from an uncomfortable grip until paired with a magazine extender. Most modified baseplates offer extended magazine capacity as well as a more comfortable grip and more control over the very small pistol when shooting. This particular photo shows a 26 with extensive accessorization to the front end with a laser and reflex sight as well as a barrel extension. This “tacticool” treatment defeats the basic purpose of the 26 as a small concealable handgun. In all, the accessories on this Glock (magazine and forend) are almost as big as the replica airsoft gun itself.

As a youth with a gun obsession, the Punisher (and the Punisher’s Arsenal) was a key comic book to collect. One of the few major heroes (or anti-heroes in this case) who ran around the Marvel universe using a gun instead of superpowers. These grips make a sweet looking gun into a beautiful piece of gunporn.

Introduced in the early 70’s by Steyr Mannlicher of Austria, the AUG (Armee Universal Gewehr - “Universal Army Rifle”) became the standard rifle of the Austrian military in 1977, and was marketed aggressively internationally since then. (I remember the booths, sample rifles, and promotional materials at the Canadian ARMEX expositions). The AUG has been released in multiple variants in the decades since including the one above, the AUG A2. The AUG was known for being easily changed from one role to the next - with a modular design that allows it to switch from heavy-barreled light machine gun to a variety of rifle and carbine lengths, as well as a very short-barreled version for use as a 9mm or 5.56mm submachine gun.

The LUSA A2 is a select fire 9mm submachine gun that was originally developed by a Portuguese firm for use in Portugal and adopted by a few other European countries. The design was then sold to an American firm where it is being manufactured and sold today. It is sold as a semi-automatic carbine in the civilian market, and with a select-fire trigger group almost identical to the MP5 for law enforcement and government agencies. The submachine gun definitely shows it’s Heckler & Koch roots with remarked similarities to the MP5 - which should come as no surprise as the company that originally developed it was also manufacturing H&K 21 and G3 rifles under license at the time.

The USAS-12 is probably the most well-known or recognized autoshotgun in the world. Made in South Korea by Daewoo and based on the concepts of the Atchisson Assault 12 gauge, this rifle was designed to be easily usable by anyone trained with the M16. The USAS-12 is a gas-action select-fire rifle with a lot of the internals borrowed from the design of the Atchisson Assault (notably the long bolt overtravel which results in a lower, more controllable rate of fire).

Loaded with a 10-round magazine, the USAS-12 weighs in well over 12 pounds. The one shown here has a 20-round drum magazine as well as a pair (?!) of flashlights, laser sight and reflex sight.

A few years ago, Knoxx Industries (who mostly manufacture recoil reduction hardware for rifles and shotguns) started making the Sidewinder - a kit to convert a Mossberg 500 (and a few other similar models) to be able to use either a 6 round box magazine or a 10 round drum (shown above). Unfortunately, they had issues getting the kit manufactured at their target price, and have since discontinued production and sales. This makes finding a photo of a Sidewinder-equipped Mossberg a bit of a challenge. Hats off to the AnarchAngel for his blog post about the Sidewinder shown here.

My Walther P99 obsession continues with this great shot of a P22 in green with the brand-name laser sight underslung under a silencer. This configuration is actually vaguely confusing, as the .22LR isn’t a prime round for self defense or just about any other role than plinking, and the silencer and laser sight would imply a “tactical” role. In effect, the gun seems to be more fashion over function.

Calico Light Weapon Systems introduced the Calico series of firearms with their unique helical magazines back in the early 90’s. The design is very distinct, with a helical magazine mounted above the action feeding either 50 or 100 rounds from above with the ejection port being directly in front of the trigger guard, ejecting the casings downwards. The M-950 Liberty III is a 9mm automatic pistol with a 6″ barrel and an overall length of 14 inches with the 50-round magazine, or 19 inches as shown here with the 100-round magazine. This picture also has a brass-catcher in place under the ejection port. The M-950 was also available in the M-960 variant which included a select-fire mode, making it a machine pistol or light carbine with an impressive magazine size.
