The Krinker Plinker is a cheesy named conversion kit for Ruger 10/22 rifles to make them into .22LR replicas of the Soviet AK-74. The kit is very well reviewed and certainly upgrades the look of the classic Ruger.

Special Weapons, a US based firm, developed this HK Clone. The basic design is the look and feel of the UMP series of subguns, but with the internals (and caliber) of the classic MP5 / HK94. Somewhere around 500 of these were produced and sold inside the US. The forearm of the semi-automatic carbine is designed to incorporate a laser sighting device or flashlight without the need for a rail mount. The standard model comes with a fixed stock, but Special Weapons is supposed to be producing a folding stock also. The one in this picture also has a custom shroud and a reflex sight.

The Walther G22 is a pretty bullpup .22 LR ‘plinking’ rifle. Unlike most .22s, it draws the eye for being black and polymer like many of the new ‘tacticals’ on the market instead of wood stocked bolt-actions like the majority of 22s (such as mine). It’s a nice semi-automatic with a 10 round magazine and it also holds a second magazine in the stock behind the magazine well. It has an ambidextrous action with the ejection port switchable from left to right (so you don’t get hot brass flying into your face).
This model is the “A3 Set” which comes with both a scope on top and a laser sight mounted just below the front of the barrel.

This brutally short AR-15 based rifle takes the Bushmaster Carbon 15 5.56mm Pistol, and adds a classic extending stock to bring it back to rifle usability, but maintains the very short barrel of the C-15. A brutal looking conversion.

Based around the Kalashnikov action, the SG 552 is the most compact of the 550 assault rifles from SIG Arms (now Swiss Arms AG). The 550-series are known for accuracy (although much of that benefit is lost in the very short 552) and dependability (because of the action).

While I wasn’t a fan of the look of the Tavor Assault Rifles when they were first unveiled by IMI (now TAAS) in 1999, I’ve found that the newer editions are much more eye-catching. These Tavor-2 rifles (based on the Micro-Tavor design) have a more traditional grip and trigger assembly as well as barrel shroud compared to the TAR-21 series. While made for the IDF, budgetary constraints have prevented these rifles from seeing action with the IDF to date (although India recently purchased a bunch of them).

Heckler & Koch introduced the G36 Series in the early 90’s for the German Military’s efforts to replace their aging assault rifles. The G36K variant (Kurtz or Short) later led to the development of the G36C (Commando or Compact - originally Commando, but the name was trademarked by Colt for the Colt Commando). The G36C has all the high-tech look of the G36 rifle, but has a lower profile and open iron sights (like the UMP). The primarily polymer construction makes the G36 series much lighter than older HK assault rifles.

The G36C looks like the brutal big brother of the UMP submachine guns.

Somehow, Fabrique Nationale manages to keep making strange, but-ugly guns that look like they are extruded instead of assembled. The FN 2000 is a bullpup “submachine gun” in 5.56N that remains reminiscent of the P90 PDW while also looking like one of the Seburo assault rifles from Ghost in the Shell.

The actual MC-51 was a specialized short version of the HK-G3 that was only used by the British SAS. Basically an MP-5 chambered in 7.62N, the recoil on it must have been punishing. But that won’t stop the Airsofters, where the MC-51 has been reborn as the “G3 SAS” in a world where guns have no recoil.
