deadEarth Playtest Feedback

So far we've played one session with our playtest GM, SquidHead but I've been reading the Clanspeak on the deadEarth website and reading through the book. The game we played was somewhat reminiscent of Gamma World, but I think that was more the fault of the players and less of the game. I think Tony was trying to instill the horror of the post-apocalyptic world upon us, but too many truly delicious alcoholic beverages had been consumed that night and it was hard to take too seriously. Come to think of it, whenever we've played with Tony we've come up with some amazing mixed drinks. Not that I'm saying that deadEarth is condusive to alcoholism...
After playing several games with assigned points for character creation, it was a pleasant change to relax into the utter abandon of random determination. I confess I find it limitting if I have a particular character in mind, so I just let go and let the dice fall where they may and make the best of the fallout. Fallout. Post-apocalyptic humour. Sorry. The natural abilities / disabilities RAWKS. What a GREAT concept. I love it, and loved it even more when I discovered the JavaScript for automatically determining which skills are which. There's only so much dice rolling I want to deal with in character creation. Character creation was easy and entertaining. Now for Game Mechanics, I have to agree with Hound that the target difficulties for skill use are skewed, but what the heck, we're not Joe Average, we're HEROES!
Thus far my only beef with the game is the sexist slant of the mutations. I'm not saying that Hooters is offensive, but PMS and Estrogen Treatment are outright derogatory. If they'd been balanced out by equally negative masculine stereotypes I might have found them funny, but I just can't get over how nasty I find those radiations. I must admit, though, that I've created about a dozen new radiations of my own and enjoy immensely attributing dE radiations to people IRL.
More later as we play more and try different GMs, characters, etc. Stay tuned!
