DREAD GAZEBO

RENOWN

This table was posted to clanspeak by Rizen, then hacked slightly by BlackHammer / Hound to suit our games. It's an excellent way to gauge how much renown to give PCs and NPCs alike based on their activities.

1. you have achieved a sort of local greatness. perhaps you saved some people's lives, or perhaps you've did a poor job robbing a bank and got caught.

2. your local fame is growing. you have either performed a couple of memorable things, or you have done a good job of riding the fame from your first deed. Locals know your strong points and maybe your weak points.

3. you've done at least one more memorable thing, or have gotten better at what you are doing. perhaps you are a doctor and have helped some improbable patients.

4. you are a local legend. your status has moved beyond hero. people in your trade have begun to notice your work..at least regionally. If a tradesman, you may be receiving a lot of business from the region.

5. your stories are no longer clear. they are begining to be exagerated and you are bigger than life to those that know you. an example would be an athelete that has had marginal national success, but is huge in his/her home town.

6-9. you are at that point where no famous person wants to be. you are hailed by the people where you originate, but are an unknown by global standards.

10-12. you are respected in your trade, but are not yet at the top. the general public may or may not know of you, and if they have heard your name, they will most likely not know anything about you. an example of this would be a comedian who fills the clubs s/he attends, but still has no hbo special.

13-15. on a regional level you are famous, however, you are still relatively unknown in the other parts of the world. in your trade you are considered to be a rising star. an example of this would be linus torvalds (the guy who invented linux) in the late 90's. within the industry everyone knew who he was, but he still didn't match someone like bill gates. the general populous was still (and is still) fairly oblivious to him except in europe, where he originates. People looking for masters in your field of specialization will hear of you sooner or later, and may come to call on your services.

16-19. your name rings true in the back of the minds of most people, though they may not know why they have heard your name; or even more likely, the general populous may have heard of your work, but not necessarily know your name. within your trade you are at or near the top of your game. an example of this would be the researchers who completed the human genome project this year.

20-22. you are at that critical level. people who know you wonder whether you have reached your peak, or if you have more to do. can you make it that few extra kilometers to immortality, or will your name fade through the years and be lost to time. an example of this would be most of the US presidents..and probably other political officials around the world.

23-24. by all standards you have achieved greatness. you are on the minds of everyone in your field, and most of the general public. if your longevity can keep up with the impact you've had on the world, you will be a legend. an example of this is tiger woods (golf pro).

25. you are a legend. your name will be remembered throughout history. it doesn't matter whether your accomplishments have been good or evil, greed or selflessness, you are immortal in the eyes of history. examples of this are adolf hitler, joan of arc, joseph stalin, william shakespeare, or plato.
